Six and counting at WGB

Weathered Ground Brewery (WGB) celebrated a super 6th Anniversary last weekend, and it was a pure delight. Their extensive, 20-beer tap list featured more special anniversary beers than ever before.

If you like fruited/flavored quick sours, you were in luck. Fans enjoyed new flavor combinations such as cherry-peach, apricot-pear, and carrot (yes, carrot)-plum sours. Other anniversary specials included a strawberry & banana IPA, BBA Dopplebock, Amber Ale, and Pineapple Pale Ale.

Add the above specials to their regular line up, including the excellent 16 Shots in Munich Pils, Blackberry/Raspberry Bearer of Fruit, Stop & Smell the Citrus Hazy IPA, and Tim Buck Sue Strawberry Saison, and you have a winning tap list.

Hats-off to WGB’s Meador

Brilliant Stream tips our hat to head brewer Anthony Meador and the WGB brewhouse crew for the wonderful libations. Beer after beer, they show their mastery of a broad range of beer styles. Plenty of popular IPAs and fruited sours, along with less-common, but delicious, Saisons and Farmhouse Ales.

Excellent service

The WGB bars, both indoors and out, were well-staffed throughout the day, so patrons never waited long to get their glasses filled. You can count on WGB’s veteran serving crew to pour your beer properly and quickly. Staff members all sported spiffy, new tie-dyed T-shirts in colors of pink, yellow, and white. They never looked better.

Party attracts other brewers too

We noticed folks from several other breweries in attendance during the day, as well as plenty of familiar craft beer aficionado faces from around the southern part of the state.

WGB continues to do a wonderful job at hospitality and brewing in Cool Ridge, WV. They’re a great anchor to our craft brewing industry in southern West Virginia. If you can’t get to WGB’s home base, you’ll often find a few of their beers out in distribution in several parts of West Virginia, including Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown, and Snowshoe Mountain.
