New IPA, tasting room at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company

Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company now has a very functional tasting room at its brewery outside Lewisburg, WV, where you can sample its growing line up of brews.
Located within the brewery complex right next to the brewing equipment, it is a good vantage point to watch the brewers in action or to join in a brewery tour.
You can try small samples or purchase a pint to drink right there. Half-gallon growler fills are available so customers can enjoy fresh GVBC draught at home.
No feud here: Devil Anse IPA hits the bullseye
Over the past couple of weeks GVBC released four new beers to the market. Quite impressive among them is the brewery’s signature IPA: Devil Anse. After enjoying their Wild Trail Pale Ale over the past half year, GVBC fans anxiously awaited the promised IPA. They won’t be disappointed.
Devil Anse draught is now available and six-packs of cans will hit the market a bit later. Keeping with the West Virginia legends theme for their full-time beers, Devil Anse celebrates the larger than life leader of the famous Hatfield clan of southern WV. The Hatfield patriarch is best known for leading his family against the Kentucky-based McCoys in a real-life clash of clans.
This American-style India Pale Ale features a malt-hops balance tilted toward hops, but not without some nice body and mouthfeel. Like the historic Devil Anse, it definitely has a bit of an edge.
The IPA picks up a beautiful amber color from the addition of some British crystal malt and a complex citrusy-fruity-woodsy aroma and flavor from the ample inclusion of Amarillo, Simcoe, and Galaxy hops.
At 6.9% abv this beer hits the sweet spot for a standard American IPA. It is definitely satisfying, but also so very drinkable, meaning that you may want to have a second. We tip our hats to brewer Brian Reymiller.
Late Spring/Early Summer Seasonals Released
Three wheat beers make up the rest of the new GVBC releases. The brewery’s early summer seasonal is the Lilly Dipper Wit. It is a Belgian-style white ale. Again in this beer, the brewer has achieved a great balance between the malt, spice, and yeast-derived flavors.
Lilly Dipper is light and very refreshing and should be a perfect pairing with warm summer days. Available for draught in 1/6th barrels.
Wild & Wonderful Series #2 completes the new offerings. This time around, the strong beer of the pair is the Weizenbock, which is a darker, rich, sweet-bready flavored German-style wheat ale with the tell-tale clove aroma from the yeast. 7.75% abv.
The lighter half of the Wild & Wonderful pair is the Hefeweizen. It has the signature banana-clove aroma and a smooth, moderate body. Both beers in this release were made with 50% malted German wheat. The brewery’s advanced mash filter equipment allows them to use high percentages of wheat that otherwise could be problematic. This gives GVBC wheat beers a flavor profile and mouthfeel that many other small breweries would find hard to duplicate. 5.76% abv.
The Wild & Wonderful series beers are available only in 22 oz bottles.
GVBC also rides the popular wave of featuring food trucks at its brewery tasting room. Most weekends food truck fare will be available at the brewery.
Greenbrier Valley Brewing was first in state to can
Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company was the first West Virginia craft brewery to offer its beer in six-packs of 12-oz. cans. GVBC feels canned beer matches up well with the brewery’s “Get Out, Explore, Bring Beer” theme.
Aluminum cans are growing fast in popularity as a craft beer package in West Virginia. Their lighter weight and easy recyclability means they are more environmentally friendly than glass packages. Their superior light-blocking ability keeps beer fresher than glass.
This month, Mountain State Brewing Company became the second West Virginia brewery to offer its full-time beers in cans. Next up may well be Big Timber Brewing, whose owners says they hope to add cans later in the summer.
