Nano-Brewery offers Celtic-style beer & food

Jennifer and Kenny Graley, Nano’s owners, say they love Celtic Calling and invite people to stop in and try the Irish stew and beer. Kenny, who brews the beer, says he will have a special Foreign Extra Stout (8.5% ABV) on draught for the dinner event. “It’s rich in flavors and hops, with a slightly higher ABV than most,” Kenny explains. “It has light roasted coffee and chocolate notes.”

Since one stout is rarely enough during the Celtic season, Kenny has also flavored up a second version of his big stout, one flavored with vanilla and espresso.

On tap, in addition to the Stouts, Nano will have two small-batch seasonal brews: (1) Salted Caramel Porter and (2) Madra Dearg, an Irish Red Ale. During the dinner hours, all these tasty brews will be available to complement a hearty meal of Irish Stew and Soda Bread, prepared by the talented locals, Renée and Rory Perry. While Rory may be best known for the Pepperoni Rolls served at the brewery, he also makes a delicious soda bread.

Stew • Stout • Fun

Irish stew servings start at 5:00 P.M. Thursday and run until 8:00 P.M. at dinner hours’ end. Beer is served from 5:00 P.M. until closing time. The Foreign Extra Stouts are offered at $7.50 for a 13-oz. pour. Both of the two small-batch seasonal beers sell for $6 a pint. Half pours are also available. All items are priced a la carte. Reservations are not required.

Celtic Calling Gathering, now in its 10th year, brings a variety of Celtic-themed activities to Charleston. This year it runs March 4 to 8. Details on all the activities are available at the Celtic Calling website. It’s a five-day celebration of Celtic arts, culture, and traditions, that includes music, dance, education, athleticism, and family fun.
