Reminiscing with Rich Ireland

Rich Ireland was a pioneer in West Virginia’s craft beer media, both as a newspaper columnist and podcaster. More than any other one person, he got me interested in getting involved with the nascent West Virginia craft beer industry.

As our local beer industry began blooming in the final decade of the 1900s and first decade of the 2000s, Rich got into homebrewing and became a student of and advocate for the exciting things happening in small breweries around the state. He also led numerous craft beer fans on trips to European breweries. His enthusiasm was infectious, and as his next door neighbor at the time, I got caught up in the craft beer wave too.

On Episode 112 of West Virginia Beer Roads podcast, I sit down with Rich to reminisce about the beer decades of the 1990s and 2000s. We get into the things that got us both so excited about craft beer. It was new. It was thrilling. It was consuming. It was tasty.

So listen in and join us in this walk down craft beer’s memory lane.
