Big Timber unveils Mountain Beer
August 5, 2025
Big Timber Brewing Co. (BTB) announced the release of Mountain Beer, which it describes as “a crisp and crushable” Session Pale Ale, coming in at just 4.5% ABV.
Mountain Beer is Big Timber’s first beer to be officially licensed with West Virginia University. With this licensing agreement beer fans will notice the bold trademarked Flying WV sports logo and also the depiction of the Mountaineer on the Mountain Beer can label.

Release Party a fun event
The beer was officially launched last Friday evening (8/1) at Mountain Mamas in Morgantown. Brilliant Stream correspondent Andrea Fleming was on hand, and she tells us that the event drew a nice crowd.
“The beer’s inaugural pour was made by Coach Ross Hodge, WVU’s new head basketball coach,” said Andrea.

Big Timber owners say it is designed as a perfect accompaniment to tailgates, watch parties, or just cheering on the Mountaineers. While the beer will appear widely during the upcoming WVU football season, Big Timber assures us the beer is a year-round offering.

Drinking Mountaineer Beer
“Mountain Beer is just what the Mountaineer’s upcoming sports season needs,” says Andrea. “It’s light bodied, sublimely hoppy, and at 4.5%, perfect for tailgating or watching a buzzer beater. It goes down smoothly with a dry finish. It pairs well with wings, and hits the spot on a later summer day.”

Big Timber Lead Brewer Chris Newsom tells Brilliant Stream that Mountain Beer is crafted to deliver full hop character with a lighter finish. “Mountain Beer balances vibrant hop flavor with drinkability,” he says.
Brewed with a carefully selected malt bill featuring Malteurop’s Crystal Wheat and a blend of German and American Pilsen malts, this beer offers a subtle sweetness and clean malt backbone. It’s hopped with a bright blend of Idaho-7, Centennial, Chinook, and Simcoe, showcasing notes of tangerine, grapefruit, and a soft, refreshing bitterness.
“This beer is all about celebrating the Mountaineers,” says Newsom. “It’s light enough to enjoy a few, but flavorful enough to satisfy fans of great pale ales. Whether you’re in the Blue Lot or on the couch, it’s built for good times.”
Where to find Mountain Beer
The beer should be widely available throughout West Virginia anywhere Big Timber beers are currently offered. It will be in all Walmarts and Krogers along with specialty stores and convenience stores. Anticipated retail price will be around $12.00 for a 4-pack of 16oz cans. The beer will also be coming out in 9-packs of 16oz cans later this fall.
Jared Wray, BTB’s marketing director, said that the brewery will also continue to offer its Country Roads Trust Lager, of which a percentage of sales dollars goes to support the Name Image Likeness (NIL) collective for university athletes.
