Excellent beer selections
As Brilliant Stream has noted many times before, this festival excels in its support for charitable work in its community. However, charity is not the only thing at which Mountaineer Brewfest excels. The fest also offers a most bountiful selection of tasty beer.
This year, beer samples available from West Virginia’s small & independent brewers will include beauties from: Screech Owl Brewing (Bruceton Mills), Mountain State Brewing (Thomas), Bridge Brew Works (Fayetteville), Big Timber Brewing (Elkins), Old Spruce Brewing (Snowshoe), Fox Hops Brewing (Elkins), Abolitionist Ale Works (Charles Town), Brew Keepers (Wheeling), Koerber Beer Company (Barboursville), The Peddler Brewing (Huntington), Greenbrier Valley Brewing (Maxwelton), Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider (Lewisburg), Fife Street Brewing (Charleston), Freefolk Brewery (Hico), Parkersburg Brewing, Berkeley Springs Brewing, Stumptown Ales (Davis), High Ground Brewing (Terra Alta), Short Story Brewing (Rivesville), and Chestnut Brew Works (Morgantown).

Mountaineer Brewfest also features a Beer Garden with over 50 additional beer labels being poured. The beer garden is hosted by distributor sponsors that include: Carenbauer Distributing, Blue Mountain Beverage, Johnson Brothers Mountain State Beverage, and Wine & Beverage Merchants of WV. Pouring duties at the beer garden are led by members of the Circus Saints & Sinners service organization.

Fest excels at charity donations
For the 11th straight year the festival’s lead sponsor is Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. This sponsorship and the many other local sponsors, attendee ticket sales, support from food vendors’ sales, matching tips generated by the Circus Saints & Sinners, and the work of festival volunteers has allowed Mountaineer Brewfest to provide over $267,000 to date in donations to local Wheeling charities.
House of the Carpenter is 2025’s selected charity
“Each year the Mountaineer Brewfest committee votes to select a charity to receive proceeds from our festival,” said Mountaineer Brewfest founder and president Jeff Hayes. This year’s selected charity is House of the Carpenter.
For more than 60 years, the House of the Carpenter has stood as a beacon of hope on Wheeling Island. Launched by the United Methodist Church to combat rising poverty in the Upper Ohio Valley, the nonprofit has grown to now serve over 1,400 individuals every week.

Hayes thanked all the festival sponsors and the over 100 volunteers required to make the fest a success. Among the volunteers he recognized are those from Circus Saints & Sinners, Wheeling Alers Home Brew Club, and The Wheeling Lightningbirds women’s amateur ice hockey team.
Festival hours for 2025 are: VIP entry 3:00 pm, General Admission entry at 4:00 pm, and the festival ends at 10:00 pm. You must be 21 years of age with a valid photo ID to enter. This is a rain or shine event.
