Big Timber takes Gold at WBC
May 2, 2025

Glory be. Big Timber Brewing does it again.
This is BIG news. The guys from Big Timber pulled off their third win in three years at a World Beer Cup (WBC) competition. Big Timber’s Skidder Brown Ale took home a Gold Medal at the 2025 WBC event, announced Thursday evening in Indianapolis.
This is a most prestigious win for the brewery, based in Elkins, WV. They were the only West Virginia brewery to win a medal this year. In 2023, Big Timber won a WBC bronze medal for its Big Timber Porter, and the same beer took home Gold last year.
Skidder Brown Ale competed in the Brown Porter category, which had a total of 49 entries. The beer is described as a dry brown ale with strong chocolate notes. It comes in at 5.5% ABV. On Untappd, the ale rates a solid 3.89.
Congratulations to the BTB brewing team led by Matt Kwasniewski and Chris Newsom.
WBC – Recognizing brewing excellence
The World Beer Cup recognizes brewing excellence in more than 100 categories but does not automatically award the top three entries in a particular category. When judges determine that a category contains three excellent examples of the style, they present gold, silver, and bronze awards for the first, second, and third place beers, respectively.

The World Beer Cup is organized by the Brewers Association, the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American brewers, their beers and the community of brewing enthusiasts.
