Holiday season at Bullock Distillery is special

Are you interested in some good whiskey from a stellar local business this holiday season? When you talk bourbon and other distilled spirits in Charleston, West Virginia, you should focus you attention on The Bullock Distillery. There’s no better spirits purveyor around our our home city than these guys.

This week, the West Virginia Beer Roads (WVBR) podcast crew took a break from their IPAs to stop in for a visit with Tighe Bullock, COO of The Bullock Distillery. We loved what we learned.

This little distillery operation in Charleston’s Elk City District is totally primed for the holidays. The distillery retail shop is filled to the brim with beautiful bourbons and other distilled spirits, loads of goods from other West Virginia specialty food and handmade craft vendors, as well as Bullock Distillery logo merch, like shirts and caps.

It would be hard to find a better holiday gift shop.

Greenbrier Karst water makes a difference

Whether used for mashing in or for reducing the spirit proof from barrel strength to bottle strength, Bullock uses its lovely Karst water as a secret ingredient. The crazy thing is: They truck in this water from a limestone cave on family property 100 miles away in the mountains of Greenbrier County, WV. This water is super clean and delicious. It has the perfect water chemistry for making great whiskey.

Small batch their specialty

A stop at the Bullock Distillery store will show you a nice selection of single-barrel bourbons, each with different and endearing taste profiles. The WVBR crew explored two of these during their visit.

The Rare Christmas Release Bourbon and the Tanner’s Select Bourbon were delicious and unique single-barrel bottlings. Both are featured for this holiday season. They expect both to sell out soon.

Beyond the special single-barrel bourbons are plenty of other spirit options. These include their standard Bourbons, LaBlanc Vodka, Barrel-Rested Gin, and White Dog Moonshine.

Good merch from other craft producers

Another thing we love about The Bullock Distillery store is its support of other West Virginia small craft product producers and artists. Stocked at the store are locally made jams, jellies, roasted coffee beans, salsa, honey, handmade crafts, and much more. All of these vendors’ items are sold with low-to-no mark-up by Bullock because they want to promote and support other local artisans.

Try before you buy

You can always get a complimentary sample taste of any of Bullock’s spirit products at their store. Manager Royce Tanner will pour you a sample, so you can make the right decision in your bourbon or other spirits purchases. So, step up to the tasting bar.

The Bullock Distillery offers sample tastes of their products to adult customers 21 year and older.
