Fife does summer right in Charlie-West
July 24, 2024
The Charleston, WV, summer has been a hot one so far. With all this heat, it’s not been difficult to work up a thirst. So I’m thinking, I wonder how our downtown brewers are faring?
To find out, Erin McCoy and I reached out to the leaders of Fife Street Brewing, Lisa and Derek Godwin. We recorded a podcast.

With all the festivals and promotions the city has been doing downtown this summer, we’ve never seen busier streets and sidewalks or a busier Fife Street Brewing taproom. So listen in to this episode of West Virginia Beer Roads as we discuss all things beer in the summertime with Lisa and Derek.
What’s your preference in summer beers?
As one might expect, lighter-tasting pale beers have been gushing through the taps this summer. To help quench these thirsts, Fife Streets’s head brewer Gil Peterson keeps the beer lines full of easy-drinking ales. Beers like Straight Kolsch Homie, Charleston Beer (Golden Ale), Summers Street Wheat, Kanawha Kettle Sour (w/ Prickly Pear), and Blood Orange Wheat. This summer they also added Chemical Valley Haze (Hazy IPA) and Cheeky Blinders ESB as seasonals. So appropriate.
Almost all their taps are at 6% ABV or below, making it the place to go for summer-friendly beer.
Keeping thirsts quenched is the number one job of Fife Street’s beertenders this summer.
