Gigantic tap takeover for Big Timber

Coming up on February 10, we found the largest tap takeover we’ve ever heard of in West Virginia featuring a local brewery. Starting at noon this Saturday, the Dark & Dusty Rec. Riders’ Tap House in Fairmont will have its entire 30-beer-tap bank pouring beers from Big Timber Brewing.

Big Timber loves to support tap takeovers

We communicated with Jared Wray, sales manager for Big Timber Brewing, to find out how this gigantic tap takeover came about.

“The tap takeover this Saturday at Dark & Dusty came about during a routine account visit,” Jared explains. “I stopped by to introduce myself to the owners, and we started discussing the idea of a tap takeover.”

During the ensuing conversation, Jared says that Kenny Hayes, Dark & Dusty’s founder/owner, brought up the idea to include all 30 draft lines. Jared jumped on the idea.

“We always keep a keg or two back of all of our seasonal/specialty beers for festivals or events like this so I knew we could make it happen. All of the beers we chose are styles that are more stable, and we quality-check each before they are sent out. We picked a date far enough out to give us time to have a couple of new releases for the event and make sure we could properly promote it.”

Jared notes he is always available to help licensees set up special events. “Tap takeovers are a great opportunity for a lot of people to try some of our beers they may never have seen otherwise,” he says.

And we at Brilliant Stream 100% agree. We love tap takeovers as craft-beer-friendly business-building events. There’s no better opportunity for craft beer fans to explore and sample.

Dark & Dusty deserves our love for coming out of the gate focused on selling West Virginia-made beer. Since it opened a couple of months back, it’s earned a spot among the very best places in north central WV for finding beer on draft from West Virginia brewers. And we should add that they also feature spirits from WV distillers, along with pizza, burgers, wings, and more. Give bar owner Kenny Hayes a lot of credit for coming up with this concept.

30-tap takeover with Big Timber is just insanely incredible.

If you’re anywhere near Fairmont this coming weekend, you’ve got to stop in Dark & Dusty, try a Big Timber beer or two, and post a few photos of this historic event on social media. Let the WV beer community know what you think about it and also tell us your favorite beer.

Tap List for the event

What’s a Rec. Rider?

What’s a Rec. Rider? We didn’t know that term, but we got educated. Rec. rider is a term for folks and equipment used to ride off-road. We’re talking about recreational vehicles such as ATVs and the like. Next door to Dark & Dusty taphouse is the Rec Riders store. It’s a business, also owned by Kenny Hayes and his wife Corinne, that sells top-quality off-road parts and accessories. They carry quality brands trusted in the industry and offer a wide selection of products for enthusiasts’ off-roading needs.
