Chestnut Brew Works adds first distributor

Morgantown, WV. October 2, 2023 — Local craft brewery Chestnut Brew Works and long time local beverage distributor Mona Supply Co. Inc., are excited to announce a partnership to deliver Chestnut beer to bars, restaurants, grocery stores and retail stores throughout Monongalia County.

“This collaboration has been in the works for a long time,” says Chestnut Brew Works founder Bill Rittenour. “Mona knows Mon County. Mona understands the community. Most importantly, they understand craft beer.”

Chestnut Brew Works has been brewing in Morgantown for more than 10 years. In 2013, Rittenour opened the state’s first “Nano-brewery”, brewed 30 gallons at a time, and had 4 restaurant accounts that served CBW beer on draft. They’re known for cult favorites like Halleck Pale Ale, South Park Porter and Stunt Hawg Hazy IPA.

Mona Supply Co. Inc., has been distributing beverages in Monongalia County since 1979. A family-owned and operated company, their portfolio includes Anheuser-Busch and Yuengling as well as WV craft breweries Big Timber, Greenbrier Valley, and Screech Owl.

“The demand for Chestnut Brew Works beer has always been great,” says Larry Oleksa, who owns and operates Mona Supply Co. with his sons, Cory and Tyler. “And that demand is only growing. We both have two great teams and we’re excited to work together to get more Chestnut products out to more people.”

“Up until now, Chestnut Brew Works has 100% self-distributed,” Rittenour explains. “That means we’re out on the road ourselves a few days a week, delivering beer to about 85 locations throughout the state (58 of which are in Mon County). But the time we spend delivering is time we could be brewing and creating new recipes. Partnering with Mona will give us more time to do what we do best.” CBW will still self-distribute their products in the all other WV counties, for now.

Good news, at least for those folks in Mon County. Although you can generally find CBW beers in and around the Charleston area, I really would’t mind seeing a similar relationship developed with a reputable distributor in the southern part of WV so that even more CBW’s product would be available.

Also, I seem to recall during a previous podcast that CBW was supposed to open up a bigger, brand new location along the riverfront in MoTown. Is that still the plan? Or was CBW forced to abandon that project for some reason?
