Big Timber medals at World Beer Cup
May 11, 2023
A big congratulations is due Big Timber Brewing of Elkins, WV, for taking home its first medal at the prestigious World Beer Cup, which took place in Nashville. Big Timber Porter won the bronze medal at the competition in the Robust Porter category.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon at the end of the 2023 Craft Brewers Conference conducted by the Brewers Association. Entries at the World Beer Cup compete with beers from across the world.
This bronze medal backs up Big Timber Porter’s medal win at last fall’s Great American Beer Festival. These back-to-back wins surely prove Big Timber Porter is at the pinnacle of Robust Porters today. This marks the first time that a West Virginia brewer has won a medal for the same beer at both the GABF and World Beer Cup.
Our kudos to Matt Kwasniewski, Big Timber’s founder, head brewer, and the BTB Porter recipe originator, for making beers that are truly world class.
In the Robust Porter category, DC Brau took gold with its Penn Quarter Porter. YeongDeungPo-rter by Beervana Brewing Co. of South Korea scored the silver. There were 85 entries this year in the Robust Porter category.
“The World Beer Cup brings together the finest brewers and beers from around the globe and celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and passion for great beer,” said Chris Williams, World Beer Cup competition director. “Receiving a World Beer Cup award is a testament to quality and innovation, and we commend this year’s winners for setting the bar higher than ever.”
The Brewers Association said the best beers in 103 beer categories covering 176 different beer styles (including all subcategories) received gold, silver, and bronze awards, setting new standards for craft beer globally. Judging for the World Beer Cup took place over 18 sessions and 9 days. 2023 World Beer Cup had 10,213 entries from 2,376 breweries in 51 countries.
