New Freefolk location to open in spring

As The Freefolk Brewery continues development of its new facility in Hico, WV, could it be a harbinger of more good things ahead? Rarely has a three and a half year-old brewery in West Virginia made such a significant investment in new facilities and brewing equipment.

On one hand, the project appears as another indicator of the increased investment and business excitement related to the New River Gorge National Park. But beyond the bounds of the park, The Freefolk Brewery has its sights set squarely on becoming a major player, statewide, in the West Virginia craft beer arena.

Taking a taproom to the next level

More than just a brewery, the new Freefolk facility will serve as a welcome center on the northern rim of the New River Gorge region. With public areas targeted to open in April of 2023, this large, former Harley Davidson sales facility at Hico will be remade onto a mixed use retail center featuring a group of compatible small businesses with an outdoor recreation theme.

Today, the rear half of the 20,000 sq. ft. facility already houses Freefolk’s spacious new beer production space. By spring, the building will also be home to Freefolk’s second taproom. The brewery’s current taproom will continue to operate on the south side of Fayetteville, about ten miles away. The Freefolk Brewery specializes in American style ales and also has plans to produce lagers.
