Mega taproom fest at Greenbrier Valley

When the folks at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company (GVBC) decide to do an Oktoberfest celebration weekend, they do it up right. On Saturday, October 8, their taproom will feature 23 house-made beers, which is an unusually large number of options for them. The fest runs from 4:00 to 9:00 pm.

Oktoberfest at the taproom

Beginning late Saturday afternoon, you will find the taproom bubbling with seasonal festivities. The Oktoberfest celebration showcases a bevy of brand new small-batch releases on tap. Adding in GVBC’s regular flagships and seasonals, the special beers will bring the total tap count to 23. Of the 23, a very welcomed 10 of them will be German-style beers. Just right for the season.

“We are also gonna have tailored flights that highlight the Explorer series, German style beers, seasonals, and flagships,” GVBC’s Alex Durand tells us.

The backdrop here for the weekend is Lewisburg’s annual Taste Of Our Town festival. Called TOOT, this large festival brings the streets of Lewisburg alive with food, beverage, arts, and music. GVBC’s Oktoberfest is sanctioned as the official TOOT afterparty.

The brewery encourages folks to enjoy the Lewisburg festivities during the day and come over to the brewery for the evening. The GVBC taproom is located about five and a half miles north of downtown Lewisburg at the Greenbrier Valley Airport Industrial Park in Maxwelton.

Barktoberfest begins Friday

GVBC actually kicks the weekend off with Barktoberfest on Friday evening, Oct. 7. Barktoberfest is a collaborative effort with the Greenbrier Humane Society. Alex Durand says the event will feature the tapping of a special new brew called Brier’s Hefeweizen and will serve as a fundraiser for animal adoption efforts.

Barktoberfest will offer live music from Chandler Beavers and the Broken Dams from 6-8PM and a Hot Dog menu from Mountain Table. The brewery will conduct what they’re calling an Adopt-o-thon Swag Raffle to raise funds for the Humane Society.
