WV beer distributor to be sold

Reports out today say that that Spriggs Distributing Co., which operates beer distributing operations in both Charleston and Parkersburg, has agreed to sell all its operations. The buyer is Hand Family Companies, which currently owns beer distribution operations in Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Report of the sale was first seen today in Beer Marketer’s Insights and has now been confirmed by Brilliant Stream.

Spriggs is the largest AB-Inbev house in West Virginia. Spriggs also handles several popular local craft beer lines including Big Timber Brewing and Mountain State Brewing from West Virgina and Country Boy Brewing from Kentucky.

Any changes this will bring to beer operations in the Charleston-Huntington-Parkersburg region is unclear at this time. The report says current Spriggs General Manager Nick Williams will stay on as managing partner of the new operation. The deal is expected to close at the end of the year.
