Welcome Gil Peterson to Charleston WV

Ever since Fife Street Brewing announced their plans to open a brewery in downtown Charleston, a question on many a craft beer fan’s mind was: Who is going to be their brewer and what can we expect from them? Today, we introduce Gil Peterson to the West Virginia craft beer community.

Peterson, Fife Street’s head brewer, brings a wealth of experience to his role of leading the beer side of the brewery’s development — a development that is expected to culminate in a grand opening this May.

Join Erin and Charles on the WV Beer Roads podcast as they talk to Gil about his background, his inspiration and brewing philosophy, what he likes to brew and drink, and about some of the things we can expect from him when Fife Street Brewing opens later this spring.

WV Beer Roads Episode 047

A brewing journey with several stops

Originally from Michigan, Peterson made several stops along the road that brought him to West Virginia. He cut his brewing teeth as a homebrewer before completing a brewing education program and then working as an assistant in a Michigan brewery. His journey then took him to Lincoln, Nebraska for his first full-time lead brewer gig. Then coastal Alabama called, where as a head brewer he gained valuable experience and greatly increased production and sales at a nice-sized brewery with pretty wide regional distribution. But as a true beer sojourner, he got the itch for a new venue, with new scenery, and new opportunity.

Luckily for us, the Fife Street Brewing project was searching for a head brewer about the time Gil was beginning to shop around. A marriage was made. We’re happy to have Gil here in West Virginia and so looking forward to the beers he will create at Fife Street.
