Mike Vance of Abolitionist Ale Works

Mike Vance, co-owner and director of brewing at Abolitionist Ale Works in Charles Town, joins our West Virginia Beer Roads crew to discuss his unique take on brewing in the Mountain State. Listen in as Mike explains his philosophy of brewing and selling drier, funkier beer styles in a current market that flocks to sugared-up sweeter styles.

Peace, Hops & West Virginia Beer at Abolitionist Ale Works

Mike is a West Virgina brewing treasure who produces what is arguably the most interesting and diverse beer line in the state. At the Abolitionist taproom, he is a tireless advocate for beer styles that many other brewers avoid because they are harder to sell, harder to get trial. We love what Mike says: “I think when people start drinking these drier beers, you realize, man, you can actually taste it. You get flavors —you these nuances that you can’t get when it’s covered up with sugar.”
