Best Beer Bets in West Virginia • Late August 2021

We’re always on the lookout for interesting new beer releases and for fresh re-releases of our favorite brews. Here are some of the beers we’d look for as we head into late August 2021. Get out and support your local breweries.

Bridge Brew Works, Fayetteville

Momma Rye IPA. A fresh batch at the taproom for your late August enjoyment. Momma Rye is an IPA made with a nice portion of rye grain to give it a nice spicy note that goes well with the citrusy, earthy hops used. These IPAs are best fresh before the spiciness begins to fade. 7.4% ABV.

High Ground Brewing, Terra Alta

Heavy Handed. This Double New England is a 10-percenter that doesn’t have big alcohol notes. Mouthfeel is big and juicy with awesome fruit and a little piney dankness from the addition of Chinook hop – also has Citra, Mosaic, and Idaho Gem. 10% ABV. It won Best of the Fest at last week’s Rails & Ales Festival in Huntington. Available at their taproom and in limited distro in draft and cans.

Pineapple Preacher. Pineapple Milkshake IPA. Back for another run with lactose, pineapple, and lots of fruity hops. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel, lightly sweet, with low bitterness. 6.1% ABV. Look for it at the brewery taproom and in limited distro in draft and cans.

Hello Mr. Fancy Pants. Returns as a Pineapple Coconut Tartshake IPA. It’s a hybrid between a Milkshake IPA and a Sour Ale. In the same series as their Aw Jeez and Coconut Pete beers. 8.0% ABV. Look for it at the brewery taproom and in limited distro in draft and cans.

Big Timber Brewing, Elkins

ForestFest Oktoberfest Beer. Fest beer lovers are so happy it’s back for another year. People go crazy for it’s malty, bold flavor. Dark amber color and toasty malt nose are the first things you notice. The smooth malty mouthfeel fades into a sweet caramel finish. 5.6% ABV. Cans and draft in distribution.

A Beer With Hops. This is Big Timber’s newest hazy IPA. It features Simcoe, Amarillo & Sultana hops. Available in the Elkins taproom. Draft and cans.

The Peddler, Huntington

Space Camp Tramp Stamp. A hot new orange “Tang” flavored sour. 4.9% ABV. Available on draft at the brewery taproom.

Weathered Ground Brewery, Cool Ridge

Stop & Smell the Citrus. A fresh batch of this popular Juicy-Hazy IPA has been released. Featuring Jarrylo, Citra and Mosaic hops. 6.1% ABV. Look for it in cans out in distro.

RK Double IPA. New batch just released. Now made with all regionally-sourced craft malts including Tennessee 2-row barley, a large dose of sweet, light Munich malt, and a touch of CaraMunich for color and toasted caramel flavor. An ample blend of Amarillo, Chinook, Centennial and Jarrylo hops. At the brewery taproom and in distribution. Cans and draft.

Brew Keepers, Wheeling

Cut Nail. Returns now as a Session IPA. Light and tropically hoppy. 4.0% ABV. Available on draft in the brewery taproom.

Honey Creme Hefe Blonde. A returning favorite from three years ago. A hybrid ale with a big dose of locally-sourced honey. 5.5% ABV. On draft at the taproom.

Parkersburg Brewing, Parkersburg

Aloha Summer. A tropical fruited sour with tangerine and pineapple. Big tart fruit burst. 5.0% ABV. On draft at the taproom.

Abolitionist Ale Works, Charles Town

Labor Haze IPA. A Hazy IPA with Loral Cryo & Amarillo Cryo hops. A chance to taste the flavor intensity difference that Cryo hops make. Great end of summer drinking at 5.8% ABV. Draft at the taproom.

Harpers Berry Ale. A new batch of this fruited sour ale with blueberries and raspberries is now available. 4.2% ABV. Draft and cans at the taproom.

Morgantown Brewing, Morgantown
