Extended alcohol sales hours begin Monday
May 8, 2021
Just in time for American Craft Beer Week, brewery taprooms, bars, restaurants, and retail stores may operate with extended alcohol sales hours. The West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration (WVABCA) announced that the extended alcohol sales hours take effect on Monday, May 10, 2021. The new hours were contained in HB 2025 which passed the legislature last month.
American Craft Beer Week® (May 10–16, 2021) is our annual springtime salute to local beer and local breweries. It’s an opportunity to honor the hometown gathering places that give our communities their unique flavor, because here’s the glorious truth: Local Beer Is Better. So let’s get out to our favorite brewery taprooms and craft beer bars this week and celebrate.
Beginning May 10, the new legal operational hours for beer sales are:
- Beer-only taverns and all off-premise retailers (grocery, convenience, carryouts, etc.) may sell beer and wine from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. every day of the week.
- All bars, brewpubs, taprooms, and restaurants with private club licenses may be open from 6:00 am. to 3:00 a.m. every day of the week.
- Retail Liquor Stores may sell from 8:00 am to 12:00 am from Monday thru Saturday, and 1:00 pm to 12: 00 am on Sunday.
WVABCA Commissioner Fred Wooton said, “The WVABCA has been very busy working to educate licensees and the public regarding HB 2025. I would like to encourage businesses and licensees to visit our website to learn more about the news laws and remind everyone to please drink responsibly.” The WVABCA encourages people to check its website for more information on the law changes related to HB 2025.
