More WV beer coming to Capitol St.

Things on Capitol St. in Charleston are looking up for beer. The new owners of Axes & Ales promise to bring more West Virginia beer to Capitol St. when they complete their improvements to the bar.

Axes & Ales proprietor Nikki Holbert promises more West Virginia beer at the bar.

Nikki and Matt Holbert, also owners of the Bricks & Barrels restaurant, took over ownership of the place a few days ago. First, they will add more cans of West Virginia made beers to the Axes & Ales menu. They also plan to add 10 taps, allowing them to focus on a wider variety of WV beers, much as they have done at Bricks & Barrels.

“We’re going to add in as many cans and bottles of West Virginia beer as we can,” says Nikki. She will also be adding more wines to the bar menu. “We will be offering wines in different price levels from low to high.” They plan to have happy hour specials on beer and wine from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. daily.

Right now they only offer deli sandwiches but will be adding some appetizers and new things like barbecues for the evening hours. For private events they will offer catering from Bricks & Barrels.

With some additional tables being added, the place will seat about 70 people inside. Nikki is meeting with the city to explore getting permits for a few sidewalk tables too. A dining room at the rear of the ax range will also be able to be closed off as space for meetings and private parties.

The Axes & Ales business is really one operation even though it operates with sort of two different names. The Lucky Dill Deli focuses on lunchtime but continues its sandwich menu through the evening. Axes & Ales is the ax range and nightclub side of the business. Nikki says they plan to keep the Axes & Ales name along with the Lucky Dill Deli.

Not to worry, the ax throwing range is staying put.
