Hops on the Mon invades High St.

This Saturday’s Hops on the Mon beer festival will provide probably your first ever chance to drink beers, legally, in the middle of Morgantown’s High St.

on High St. this year

“I believe this is the first beer festival held on High St. in downtown Morgantown,” Grace Hutchens said. Hutchens is the festival organizer and also proprietor of the popular Apothecary Ale House and Cafe in the university city.

High Street will be closed off between Walnut and Pleasant streets, which also includes the county courthouse plaza. Over 120 different beers will flow from 50 or so breweries.

“It’s your opportunity to try some excellent beers from all over Europe, the U.S., and West Virginia,” Hutchens says.

Fest moves downtown in its 3rd year

The festival’s move to downtown came about through a partnership with Main Street Morgantown. “I’ve always wanted to have this event on High Street and partnering with them was the perfect way to bring it all together,” Hutchens says.

After operating her downtown bar and restaurant for the past several years, she adds, “I’m pretty invested in downtown Morgantown.” Hutchens also serves as a board member of Main Street Morgantown.

Audience participation

Festival goers also get to select their favorite food and beverage. Two festival contests allow you to vote for the best brewery and the best food. The top voted brewery receives the festival’s Hops Cup. The featured food contest this year is the Perfect Pierogi & Dumpling Showdown. Eight local restaurants are competing in that.

a few more volunteers Needed

Grace says they could still use a few more volunteers to help out on Saturday. You can sign up at the Hops on the Mon website. Volunteers get free admission to the fest.

Live bands & Market

There will be live performances by bands Hello June and Optimist Riff. A mini-market of downtown businesses will offer a variety of items that they also sell in their shops.

Tickets

$35 for general admission and $10 for non-beer drinkers. Must be aged 21+. If the festival does not sell out in advance, tickets will also be offered at the gate on Saturday
