IPA winners announced

The Appalachian Brew Club announced the winners of the club’s 10th Annual IPA Throwdown, which was held June 1 in Elkins, WV. The competition, hosted by Big Timber Brewing Company, brings in a large number of entries from homebrewers across the region.
The IPA winners were:
Best of Show
Bill Metz of Oakland, MD with a Session IPA
American IPA
Gold: Steve Straley, Elkins, WV
Silver: Robert Moore, Midland, PA
Bronze: Alex Hartlaub, Manitowoc, WI
Specialty IPA
Gold: Robert Moore, Midland, PA (Black IPA)
Silver: Scott Hayes, Durbin, WV (Red IPA)
Bronze: Robert Moore, Midland, PA (Rye IPA)
Hazy IPA
Gold: Scott Biola, Elkins, WV (New England IPA)
Silver: Danielle Broschart, Elkins, WV (Milkshake IPA)
Bronze: Dean Wiensch, Valders, WI (New England IPA)
Double and Specialty IPA
Gold: Bill Metz, Oakland, MD (Session IPA)
Silver Jason Boyle, Pittsburgh, PA (Double IPA)
Silver: Jack Tribble, Elkins, WV (Session IPA)
As can be seen by the geographic distribution of the medalists, the competition attracted entries from a wide area. The beer was judged by a team of experienced homebrew competition judges.
Competition organizer Rick Newsome gave a special thank you to Big Timber Brewing and all the volunteers for making this year’s event a success.
