Brewery to reopen in Davis WV

Davis WV
The 912 Brewpub will open at the former Blackwater Brewing Company location.

Update: 09/10/19 THIS PROJECT IS DEAD. BUSINESS CLOSED

Tucker County, WV promises to once again have three operating breweries when a newly announced Davis brewery and restaurant project gets open. Called The 912 Brewpub, it takes over the space formerly occupied by Blackwater Brewing Company and the Barrels Brewhouse restaurant. The projected opening date for the restaurant is early to mid-March.

Brewpub owner E.T. Howell announced that brewing will be managed by a “brewmaster” who “has a proven track record of success and award winning brews.” No name was available at post time. The brewpub manager suggested that some of the former Blackwater Brewing beer recipes may be revived, but more specifics are not yet available.

The brewpub will have a full-service bar utilizing fresh-squeezed juices and homemade mixes and syrups. In addition to beer and spirits, The 912 will offer wine, including ones from local WV vineyards.

Opening for both lunch and dinner, the restaurant will feature a Farm-to-Table style cuisine emphasizing the use of locally sourced ingredients. David Cartwright has been hired as executive chef. Cartwright formerly served as chef at Blackwater Brewing about a decade ago when the brewery was owned by the Benson family.

The name “The 912” comes from the business’ street address of 912 William Avenue in Davis.

Blackwater Brewing Company and the Barrels Brewhouse restaurant both closed last spring following brewery owner Lincoln Wilkins’ decision to reenter employment in the pharmaceutical industry, an industry in which he had formerly worked before buying Blackwater Brewing Company in December 2011. Brilliant Stream published an account of this last spring.

Since last summer, a sign on the building marquee announced that a new business was coming soon. According to The 912 owner, they began renovations on the building interior last June. As of today, no liquor or brewery licenses have yet been issued for the location, according to the listings on the WVABCA website.
