Retired trucker, wife turn hobby into Preston’s only licensed brewery, Screech Owl Brewing offers unique beers, ale
CUZZART, WV — Screech Owl Brewing is the newest fully-licensed brewery in Preston County.
It’s also the oldest.
That’s because Screech Owl Brewing is the only fully-licensed brewery in Preston County’s nearly 198-year history.
For more than two decades, Roger Johnson was an over-the-road truck driver, spending countless hours away from his family as he roamed the interstate highways, delivering goods across the country and longing for downtime at his Screech Owl Hollow home off Ralph Livengood Road in Cuzzart, near Bruceton Mills.
Today, Johnson is recently retired, having made his last official haul a month ago, and his longest trip some days is a few steps from his house to his adjacent garage, the current home of Screech Owl Brewing.
He’s traded in big rigs for big swigs, and Preston County is a better place because of it.
