OktoberWest 2015 features local beer

OW-logo
The article below is reprinted from a news release by the OktoberWest event in Charleston, West Virginia. It’s indicative of the rapidly growing interest in local beer and regional craft beer all across the Appalachian region. Twelve of their 19 featured craft breweries are from West Virginia or surrounding states, with seven having breweries located in Appalachia. In past years, OktoberWest focused mostly on light macro-brews.

It’s all about the craft brews, local foods, and live tunes!
October 17th, 4:00-9:00 PM

CHARLESTON, WV — The theme of the beer has shifted this year to celebrate craft brews – because – craft breweries fit within the entrepreneurial spirit of Charleston Main Streets. West Virginia now has 12 (actually 14 now) craft breweries, and craft breweries have created a $211M economic impact on our state. We love the authenticity and transparency that comes with locally produced goods, and we know you do too! The breweries currently represented this year are:

Charleston Brewing Company (WV)
Bridge Brew Works (WV)
Mountain State Brewery (WV)
Lost River Brewing Company (WV)
Oskar Blues Brewery (NC)
Country Boy Brewing (KY)
Devil’s Backbone Brewery (VA)
Flying Dog Brewery (MD)
Blue Mountain Brewery (VA)
Sunken City Brewing (VA)
Duclaw Brewing (MD)
Yuengling (PA)
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Magic Hat Brewing Company
Finch’s Beer Company
Kona Brewing Company
Widmer Brothers Brewing
Redhook Brewery
Goose Island Beer Company

FOODS
We are equally as excited to be introducing local eats into OktoberWest. This year food vendors from around the city will be setting up food carts, trucks, and kiosks to sell their delicious goods. We have a fantastic lineup of vendors including Dem 2 Brothers, Mi Cocina de Amor, Stuff It, Bridge Road Bistro, and much, much more.

TUNES
This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Our music lineup this year is a local favorite – The Company Stores, followed by a state favorite – Davisson Brothers Band, finishing off with our national headliner – Devon Allman Band!

Our headliner, Devon Allman, is a vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player and songwriter. He is the founder and bandleader of Devon Allman’s Honeytribe. In addition to creating two albums and leading multiple tours across North America and Europe with Honeytribe, Devon has contributed to several other musical recordings, including Vargas Blues Band and the A Song for My Father compilation album. Devon has appeared occasionally as a guest musician for Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band. His other musical projects include the blues-rock supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood and a solo album that was released in February 2013.

“After Spending more than a decade with Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood, the vocalist/guitarist (Gregg’s son) has stepped out with a solo album that tells his personal stories. Turquoise is well-crafted, more reflective than fiery, and soulful.” – Jerry Shriver, The USA Today
