Tamarack beer and wine updates
July 29, 2015
Tamarack is the region’s largest outlet for West Virginia-made art, crafts, and food products. The next time you visit, you’ll find something new.
While walking the main aisle and bumping into this massive floor display of Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company products, you will surely realize that Tamarack now sells West Virginia-made beer.
Last spring Brilliant Stream broke the news that Tamarack decided to add packaged WV beer to its extensive list of art, crafts, and food & beverage items. During our visit last week, we only saw Greenbrier Valley products; however, you should also expect to find others like Mountain State Brewing cans and Bridge Brew Works bottles on the shelves the next time you visit.
We liked how Tamarack was cross-selling Mothman (the beer) with Mothman (the book). The Mothman legend is the most well-known supernatural feature on the local landscape. Marketing books and beer together probably helps the sales of both.
Looking for some interesting meads and wines
Tamarack has long sold West Virginia wines, and we found some nice additions there too.
Fairmont’s Mountain Mazery is producing a line of very distinctive mead products that are not easy to find in the market. Morat Melomel is their honey and mulberry blend wine. Cafe Monteverde Methyglyn is their honey wine fermented with coffee. Both sound interesting.
One of the state’s newest wineries, Batton Hollow has been making some noise as it quickly picked up a bunch of medals at wine events. Their Seyval Blanc took Best of Show in this summer’s West Virginia Wine Competition. It’s good to find them on the shelf.
Batton Hollow is located at Lost Creek in north central WV.
