Hi-Wire to add 2nd Asheville location

Asheville, NC — Hi-Wire Brewing Company is developing a second production facility near the famous Biltmore Estate. Called the Biltmore Big Top, the new 26,000 sq. ft. facility will house both a brewery and spacious tasting room, including an outdoor area.

Big Top is located at 2 Huntsman Place in the Biltmore Village area. The building sits behind the Appalachian Vintner store on Biltmore Avenue. The new facility is about one-half mile from the Biltmore Estate and less than two miles from HiWire’s South Slope brewery and tasting room, which will continue to be fully operational.

Over the past few weeks, brewing equipment has been arriving and remodeling has begun. There is a lot of work to complete before the opening targeted for later this year. Watch Hi-Wire’s Facebook page for announcements about opening dates and planned activities.

Big Top will house a premium 30-barrel brewhouse, lots of fermentation and conditioning tankage, and a super fast bottling line. The new equipment should allow Hi-Wire to increase its production capacity by a factor of 10 over its current operation.

Bird On A Wire well-received

Hi-Wire’s recent collaboration with Charlotte’s Birdsong Brewing produced a beautiful, peated Wee Heavy-style Scottish ale called Bird On A Wire. The beer was a hit at an April 8th tasting held by KRAZE, the Charleston, WV, craft beer enthusiast group.

The beer was inspired by the smoky flavors of Scotch whiskey produced in the Scottish highlands. As the brewery describes it: “The smoky flavor brought forth from the addition of peated malt blends beautifully with the malt-forward sweetness traditional in wee heavy ales. Fruit-forward characteristics of Scottish yeast round out the flavor profile of this collaborative ale.”

KRAZE members found the beer smooth and mellow, with just enough smoke to call up memories of a good single malt whisky. Here’s hoping the breweries make this one again. It was purchased at the super Raleigh bottle shop, Bottle Revolution.
