Who We Are

I’m Charles Bockway, and I write primarily about craft beer and other craft beverages from a West Virginia perspective. I post this information on the Brilliant Stream website. Occasionally, you will also find articles and posts by guest bloggers I respect.

I also produce the West Virginia Beer Roads podcast, often working with co-host Erin McCoy. For local beer videos, check out my Brilliant Stream YouTube channel. You will also find information posted under these channel names on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.

BrilliantStream.com is an independent, non-commercial web publication, which is not affiliated with any business, brewery, other alcohol licensee, or other publication. In respect to Brilliant Stream and the other channels I manage, I do not seek, accept, or run any paid advertising or solicit any donations or other financial compensation for the work done. I provide theses services purely as a free public service and as an outlet (my hobby) for my love of and interest in the craft beverage industry.

In summary, these websites, podcasts, and videos are my personal work to bring information and insights to folks interested in craft beverages produced in West Virginia and the surrounding regions of Appalachia. I am happy to receive your ideas or suggestions of topics I should look into.

What We Do

The purpose of Brilliant Stream is to help build a stronger craft beer culture by informing and empowering beer consumers. I support a beer market for adults of legal age that is free of outdated or unnecessary anti-competitive restrictions and archaic concepts. I’m an advocate of safe, responsible alcohol use. I love creative industry members that are welcoming to and inclusive of all people. I support reasonable laws and regulations for the alcohol industry that provide for and promote public safety and limit the downside of alcohol abuse.

I love helping our small craft beverage businesses make stronger connections to their consumers in a manner that builds markets and sales. In this, I especially like those who continuously strive to improve their product quality and business acumen.

I enjoy working with creative artisans who develop new products and break new ground. I love to see brewers include locally-sourced ingredients in making their products. I get excited as I see small beverage producers employ more people and help their local economies grow.

As a long-time member and supporter of the Brewers Association, I am an avid follower of the industry that includes small, independent craft breweries and the businesses that supply them with ingredients, equipment, and services. It has been so much fun watching the small brewery industry grow to over 10,000 breweries nationally.

I also provide a bit of coverage for the hobby of homebrewing. I believe that homebrewers add so much to the future of craft brewing.
